First Time For Everything

Well, I've been slacking on my blog posts recently, but it's been a crazy few weeks leading up to and then recovering from my first surgery! I had been having all sorts of pain in my abdomen, so I went to the doctor to see what was wrong. After an ultrasound, MRI, and CT Scan, the doctor called me last Monday with bad news: a "foreign object" was trapped inside my abdomen and he wanted me in surgery two days later. Luckily my dad and Kathryn came to my rescue. They were here by Tuesday night and stayed until Friday night. I couldn't have done it without them! It was so fun to see them again ( I hadn't seen them since they got back from their mission). It was so nice to have one-on-one time with them to catch up on things and especially for them to get to know my kids. Lexi was 5 months old when they left and Jackson was born while they were gone.

Wednesday morning my dad and Jeff came to the hospital with me. I checked in at 10:00 and was out by 5:30. I have to say, it is the strangest thing to go to sleep in the operating room and wake up in the recovery room with the surgery completed. I had to fast starting at midnight on Tuesday in preparation for the surgery, so the first thing I asked for as I was waking up was a drink of water. We went home and after a good meal I felt much better. I couldn't lift the kids for the first few days, so dad and Kathryn had to do everything for me and for them. They held the kids, played with them, changed diapers, put them down to bed, cooked meals, did the dishes and several loads of laundry...and Kathryn even made me a batch of apricot jam. I don't think she even sat down for two days! It was amazing, and I was so grateful for their help.

By Saturday I could lift Jackson, and Sunday I felt well enough to go to church and even to do sharing time in Primary. It's been a week now, and I feel 95% back to normal, which is amazing to me. The recovery hasn't been nearly as bad as I thought it would be, which is such a blessing. Still, this is not something I want to repeat, so let's hope this is the first AND LAST surgery for me!
